Volunteering with Special Olympics Fauquier County
Special Olympics in Fauquier County is entirely based on volunteers to run its programs and events. Whether you want to offer your sports skills, assist the head coaches, cheer on the athletes or help with a fundraiser or tournament, there are opportunities for everyone, both adults and minors, to be a part of an inclusive and rewarding community. Opportunities:

Head coach: A head coach leads the weekly practices to help prepare the athletes for competitive play. The head coach is required to provide the greatest level of commitment to lead the team (both athletes and other volunteers) in a season, as well as complete some minor administrative duties.

Assistant coach or on-going non-coach volunteer: A assistant or non-coach volunteer supports a team in a given season, helping the head coach with practice set up, drills and cheering on the athletes both in practice and in competitive play.

One-time event volunteer: A one-time event volunteer is someone who has limited time but desires to support Special Olympics locally here in Fauquier. There are opportunities both during competitions and for fundraising events.

To become a head coach, assistant coach or non-coach volunteer, please complete the necessary paperwork and brief trainings with Special Olympics Virginia. Items include:

Class A Volunteer Application (both adult and minor)

Background Check

Protective Behaviors online training course (30 minutes)

Coaches training (coaches only/ 60 minutes)
